A Cat Sitting Staycation Made Just for Cats

We want every cat to enjoy their cat sitting staycation. Whether they’re outgoing or shy, we always work toward the same goal—helping them feel safe and happy.

Some cats understand right away that we’re there to serve them, and make the most of our visits. Others need time, gentle patience, and space before they’re ready to connect.

Cats Take Their Time and So Do We

For both shy and social cats, we find that a minimum of 40 minutes is needed for cat sitting visits. The standard pet sitting 30 minute visit was designed around dogs’ routines—but cats need more time to warm up to new friends.

Extra attention goes a long way to lower stress and promote feelings of security and satisfaction for your cat family while you are away. We always work towards the goal of connection and trust.

  • Shy cats often peek out or approach just around the 30-minute mark. With a longer visit, we’re able to stay and reward that bravery and help them feel like visits are something to look forward to.
  • Social cats benefit too—extra time for interaction helps them feel like they have received enough attention. After a full schedule of wand toy play, kibble hockey and treat hunts, they’re ready to wind down with some snuggle time with their sitter.

The Benefits of Cat Sitting Connections

Taking the time to get to know and nurture a connection with your cat family during their staycation brings important benefits—for your cats and for your peace of mind:

Noticing the Little Things: Spending time with your cats helps us learn what’s normal for them. If something changes, whether it’s appetite, litter box habits, energy level, or behaviour, we let you know right away.

Emotional & Physical Well-Being: Play, enrichment, and companionship support your cat family’s overall health while you’re away. Regular interaction helps reduce stress and boredom, especially on longer absences.

Positive Socialization: Interacting with our team of cat sitters is like having an extended family for your cats, helping them become more comfortable, social, and adaptable.

Medical support: When your cats trust us, they’re more comfortable receiving medication or help getting to the vet. So they get the care they need, without the stress.

  • Two visits per day are arranged in the morning (8am–12pm) and evening (7–11pm).

Every visit is customized with care. During your registration meeting, we’ll discuss your cat family’s routines and preferences to determine the most appropriate visit structure for their staycation. Kittens (Under 6 Months)

Kittens need consistency, supervision, and lots of interaction. We visit kittens 6 months and under for a minimum of 2 visits per day and recommend longer visits to provide play, socialization, and frequent feeding. This also helps prevent mischief and accidents!

Kittens are full of curiosity and energy, and we make sure that energy is channelled in positive ways through interactive play, gentle guidance, and age-appropriate enrichment. They also benefit from reassuring physical contact and positive experiences with new people. Early experiences matter, and these visits help build confidence and comfort with new routines.

With plenty of play, attention, and care, we help your kitten stay happy, engaged, and well-supported while you’re away.

Super Senior Cats

Super seniors are cats 15 years and older. Not all older cats have health concerns, but those who do often benefit from two visits per day, allowing for comfort-focused care and closer observation.

We adjust our pace and approach to suit changes in mobility, hearing, or vision, offering gentle, attentive care that supports their comfort and well-being.

Older cats often appreciate the little things, like soft blankets, reassuring settling routines and extra treats. Many also enjoy increased closeness, from steady companionship to extra affection and cuddles or being carried around to their favourite spots.

Super seniors also tend to know exactly what they want—and when they want it… MeNow! We’re attentive to their preferences and happily cater to their routines, making sure they feel supported, nurtured, and well cared for.

Cats that Need Medication

Cats are notoriously tricky to medicate—especially with people outside their trusted family.

The key to successful medication administration at cat sitting visits is establishing a medication routine your cat is already comfortable with well ahead of your time away—one that doesn’t rely on force or restraint, which typically isn’t effective with someone new to them. Using force can quickly erode trust and make your cat more likely to hide or resist care.

We take a careful, gentle approach tailored to your cat, with close attention to every detail to ensure medications are given safely, accurately, and with care for your cat’s comfort.

Additional time may be required depending on the type of medication and your cat’s comfort level with the process.

Pills and Liquid Medications

  • We give pills or liquid medication hidden in food or a high-value treat. Using a special treat your cat doesn’t usually get can make it extra enticing and help keep the experience positive.

Topical Medications, Inhalers, Insulin, Subcutaneous Fluids

  • If your cat is already accustomed to the routine of these types of care and will comfortably accept them from someone new using force-free handling, we can provide this support.

Shy Cats

Most shy cats simply need time, patience, and a gentle approach before they feel ready to engage. In our experience, most shy cats do want connection—they just need to feel safe first.

We give shy cats the space they need while offering quiet, consistent encouragement through gentle interactions, play, and special treats, all at a pace that works for them. We share notes as a team so we can continue what’s working and avoid what isn’t, helping each visit build on the last.

There is often a very clear moment when their shy shell cracks and they emerge as the biggest snuggle bugs!

While we can’t guarantee that every shy cat will come out during visits, many do with time and consistency. Our approach ensures they are always cared for, whether they’re ready to engage or prefer to observe from a safe distance.

Attention Loving Cats

Some cats love visitors and attention and greet us at the door, ready to make the most of their visits—and understanding right away that we’re there to serve them.

We love to make each visit an engaging and fulfilling experience by connecting in whatever way your cat enjoys most. For some, that means high-energy play sessions; for others, it’s being doted on and treated like the royalty they clearly are. We’re simply there to assist.

Popular with our cat clients:

  • Acrobatic Playtime: fast-paced, interactive wand play with leaps, mid-air rolls, peekaboo attacks and impressive catches.
  • Hunting & Chasing Games: fulfilling natural instincts with favourites like kibble floor hockey (goalie skills required) and treat treasure hunts.
  • Spa Day: brushing, massage, scritching and overall attentive pampering.
  • Environmental Enrichment: introducing something new to explore, like puzzle feeders, fresh boxes and blanket forts.
  • Hangout Sessions: meditative lounging, cat nap pile-ons, floor roll-abouts and cat music appreciation.
  • Safe Outdoor Adventures: hallway strolls, catio let-outs or stroller outings to enjoy the sights and scents of the neighbourhood.

Protective Cats

Cats can have trauma just like humans. It may stem from something that stressed them during a sensitive stage of development, leaving a lasting emotional impact. Often these cats are deeply loving with their person or people but are wary of new people and protective of their home.

We respect protective cats’ boundaries (and their many personal rules!) and use slow movements and calm body language. We give them space while offering gentle, positive interactions through play and high-value treats, allowing trust to build gradually.

We often see that protective cats can feel conflicted—sending “come here, go away” signals. They would like affection during their cat sitting visits, just like other cats, but their protective instincts create a barrier. We look for safe, respectful ways to build that connection over time.

Outdoor Cats

For safety, we recommend that cats remain indoors while under our care. This allows us to ensure their well-being and provide consistent, reliable visits.

For clients who care for outdoor or community cats, we can provide support with scheduled feedings, fresh water, and updates on who shows up. We understand that each cat has their own routine, and we do our best to monitor and report on their well-being during your time away.

We have experience caring for outdoor colonies and understand the importance of consistency, observation, and follow-through. Each visit is approached with the same level of attention and care as we provide for indoor cat families.

Community cats are close to our hearts, and we’re always happy to support the people who look out for them.
